Jan. 8– Water leaks from frozen pipes prompted Hardin County’s First Utility District today to ask customers to conserve water for the next week.
“There’s leaks everywhere with the water freezing and then the pipes burst. We’ve had main lines to break,” said First Utility District representative Vicky Wilkerson.
Levels in the utility’s three water tanks are “dangerously low,” she said.
Jan. 7– The extreme cold of the last couple of days has wreaked havoc on Hardin County High School.
Though classes have been canceled the last two days, school officials arrived this morning to find pipes had frozen and burst, causing water accumulation of 1-2 inches on the north end of the building and near the auxiliary gym.
Water spillage has crept into the school’s band room, auxiliary gym, multiple coaches’ offices and several classrooms.
School officials including HCHS Principal Williams McAdams and Assistant Director of Schools Michael Davis, along with county firefighters are currently evaluating the scene.
Davis described the situation as “pretty bad.”
