Jerry Lee Benson was born on April 18,1948, in Hardin County, the son of the late Archie and Lou Benson. He was united in marriage to Margaret Wilkerson on Aug. 12, 1967.
Mr. Benson departed this life on Saturday, March 10, at the age of 69 years.
Mr. Benson worked for Hardin County Farmer’s CO-OP for approximately 42 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and pulling a prank whenever possible. He also enjoyed talking to anybody. His doctor put him on a strict regiment of walking, but he chose to stand and talk.
In addition to his wife Margaret of 50 years, Mr. Benson is survived by his daughter, Daphney Jones and husband Mike of Savannah; two grandchildren, Shannon Gaffney and Anna Rose Benson of Savannah; sisters, Reba Moore, Jeannie Mitchell and husband Robert Joe, Gladys Winslow and husband David and Bessie Smith; and brothers, Clinton Benson and wife Margie, Tommy White and wife Melanie and Stanley Benson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tracey Dearon Benson; sisters Ruby Stark, Dessie Taylor and Peggy Edwards; and brothers, Willard and Calvin Benson.
Services were held on Tuesday, March 13, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah with Josh Franks, Rannie Moore and Donnie Welch officiating. Burial followed in Neill Cemetery at Savannah.
