Billy Joe Rachels (4-1-18) service 4-3-18

Billy Joe “B.J.” Rachels, 85, of Counce, died on Sunday, April 1.
He was born in Como, Tennessee son of the late Albert Taylor and Myrtle Beatrice Baker Rachels. He was joined in marriage to Sharon Irene Warden, who survives.
Mr. Rachels served in the U.S. Army.  His service found him on foreign soil, working as a Supply Sergeant during the Korean Conflict.  That service led to his eventual membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a construction superintendent, manager, and estimator for Patton and Taylor Construction in Germantown, Tennessee. He later founded West Tennessee Plan Room and BJ Rachels Professional Estimating Services, businesses he operated from 1976 until 1998.  
He and his wife, along with nine other couples, founded Jackson Christian School in Jackson, Tennessee, which still offers a Christian education to young people today. Mr. Rachels served on their board of directors for many years.
He was deacon at Savannah Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife Sharon Rachels of Counce, he is survived by four daughters, Belinda Irene Rachels Stone of Jackson, Tennessee, Tina Marie Rachels Stivers of Spring, Texas, Tinsel Dalne Rachels Dukes of Cordova, Tennessee, and Holly Elaine Rachels Hook of Bentonville, Arkansas.  Also surviving are his eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his sister, Helen Roselle McHugh of Belleville, Illinois.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mable Louise McClure, Willie T. Rachels, Hazel Elizabeth Rachels and Dorothy Magaline Gudovich; and his brothers, Aaron Leander Rachels, James Lane Rachels and Gerald Taylor Rachels.

Services were held on Tuesday, April 3, at Savannah Church of Christ in Savannah with Jim Chamblee and Chuck Morris officiating. Burial followed in Highland Memorial Gardens  at Jackson, Tennessee.
