Mom killed, daughter injured in crash with log truck

Dec. 18– A Savannah woman was killed and her child injured Wednesday afternoon when her vehicle slammed into the side of a log truck trailer near Roach’s Sawmill on U.S. 64, east of the city.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Hollie M. Templeton, 27, was eastbound on U.S. 64 in a Volkswagen Passat when she struck the unloaded log truck around 4 p.m.

The log truck driven by Jerry L. O’Daniel, 65, of Savannah, was crossing the eastbound lanes on the highway attempting to go west when Templeton’s vehicle drove under the trailer.

The impact peeled back the roof of the sedan level with the top of the doors, extending to about the rear of the front seats.
