FAA shoots down ISR Group's drone test site bid

Dec. 30– The Federal Aviation Administration today announced the six national test sites for unmanned aerial vehicles or drones, and local hopeful ISR Group was not one of the six sites chosen.

The six test sites selected by the FAA are: University of Alaska, State of Nevada, New York’s Griffiss International Airport, North Dakota Department of Commerce, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech).

“We congratulate the selectees that were chosen, of course–unfortunately we were not one of them,” said Alfred Lumpkin, president and CEO of Hardin County-based ISR Group. Lumpkin noted not a single successful applicant was picked from the southeast region.

“We were excited to be part of the application process, and very pleased with the joint Alabama-Tennessee bid that we submitted – it was a technically sound offer, and we have a strong industrial base and the experience,” continued Lumpkin.
