Scottie Lynn “Scott” Evans, 48, of Morris Chapel, passed away on Friday, Aug. 9, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born on Jan. 23, 1976, in Selmer, he was the beloved son of Donald and Beverly Holloway Evans of Morris Chapel.
Scott dedicated his career to serving his community, most recently as an employee of CoreCivic Correction Facility. He had previously served as a Border Agent for the federal government, working in Utah and along the Mexican border. He held a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Memphis Lambuth College in Jackson, Tennessee. Scott was a certified arms instructor and Marine Patrol Officer, commissioned as a State of Tennessee Peace Officer. He was also a Wildlife Resource Agent, Boating Safety Officer, Ammunition Training Instructor, and M16 Rifle Instructor. His certifications included Sig Sauer Armor, Glock School, Open Water Scuba Diver, and Field Training Officer. Scott was trained in Wado-Ryu Karate, earning his First Degree Black Belt. He was a proud member of Savannah Masonic Lodge #102 and Scottish and York Rites Lodge #33 in Corinth, Mississippi. Scott received awards from TVA Police Officer of the year, gallantry star medal award, Fletc distinguished weapons expert award, TVA unit citation award, and letter of accommodation from Fletc firearms division.
Scott is lovingly remembered by his parents, Don and Beverly Holloway Evans; his brother, Josh Evans (Christy); his nieces and nephews, Mari Ann Benson (Nathan), Alayna Evans, Holly Bowen, and Colsen Evans; his great-nieces, Ainsley and Ava Cass; and his cousins, Clay Holloway, Quade Holloway (Kelley), and Heather Brown.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Pete and Mary Evans, and Bob and Betty Holloway; and his uncle Royce Evans; and aunt Pam “Dooley” Holloway.
A funeral service to honor and remember Scott’s life will be held at Morris Chapel Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug.17, with Brothers Mike Moore and Keith Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Old Union Cemetery.
