‘Battle of the Badges’ softball tournament fights child abuse

Hardin County first responders and their families are engaging in some friendly competition to benefit the local Carl Perkins Center which works to prevent child abuse.
Dubbed the “Battle of the Badges,” the co-ed softball tournament takes place Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Four-Field Complex on Northwood Drive in Savannah starting at 9 a.m.
Savannah Police Sgt. Nick Brock said first responder groups fielding teams are the city police and fire departments, the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department and correctional officers, Hardin County EMS, Tennessee Department of Correction and Jackson ER.
Admission to the fundraiser is free to the public and there will be a variety of opportunities to help support the Center’s mission, including a home run derby.
“All the money is going to the Hardin County Carl Perkins Center, which will have a representative out there,” Brock said.
Woodmen of the World is conducting a flag raising ceremony, at 9 a.m. to start the day. Capt. Tracey Grisham of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department will sing the National Anthem and Savannah Police Chief Michael Pitts will lead a prayer.
