County-wide office winners include Alexander, Davis, McCasland and Wilhite

Johnny Alexander defeated T.J. Barker in Thursday’s election with a 6 percent margin to become Hardin County’s next sheriff, while incumbent county Mayor Kevin Davis held off his most prominent of three challengers, retired Savannah City Manager Garry Welch, with a 34 percent advantage to win another term.

In the six-way contest for Hardin County Clerk, Paula Robinson Wilhite, the incumbent candidate who had been appointed by the County Commission following the death of long-time clerk Connie Stephens, received 41 percent of the vote to win the race. Runner-up was Tammy Kerr Riddell, who got 31 percent of the vote.

County Trustee Linda McCasland was reelected with 70 percent of the vote. Opponent Shawn Duren got 30 percent.
