Donny Ray Howard, 75, of Savannah, passed away on Friday, Aug. 23, the son of the late Homer K. “Boots” Howard and Edna Louise White Howard.
He was united in marriage to Janet Holden, who survives.
Mr. Howard honorably served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1967-1973. In September of 1971, he began working in sales for He worked in sales for Liberty National Life Insurance and retired after 43 years.
Donny was a member of Pyburn Union Church, Savannah Lodge 102 for 53 years, Al Chymia Shrine, Scottish Rite, and Life Underwriters Training. He was also a charter member of Twin Creek Hunting Club for 35 years, founding member of the Diamond Club, and founding member and president of Hardin County Youth Football League. In 1990, he became the Tennessee Youth Baseball Director and coached T-Ball, Minor League, Little League, and Dixie Baseball from 1979 until 1995. He would also broadcast for WKWX Sunday Down South and Hardin County and Adamsville High School’s baseball and football games.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet Howard; sons, Derek Ray Howard and Darren Ray Howard; brother, Jimmy Wayne Howard; and grandchildren, Jakob Holden Howard, Isaac Wade Howard, Ethan Paul Howard and Layla Claire Howard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Darryl Worley Cancer Center.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Pyburn Union Church in Savannah, with Tony Polk officiating. Burial followed at Pyburn Cemetery in Savannah.
