Drive Smart, Stay Safe event

Posted

On Saturday, June 6, Adamsville Police Department will be hosting its 2nd Annual, Drive Smart, Stay Safe Event. This is a completely free event to educate the community about the dangers of impaired driving and seat belt safety.
New this year will be the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s “Roll Over Truck” demonstration. This highlights the importance of wearing seatbelts, especially in rollover accidents where passengers can be ejected from the vehicle. The activity reinforces how seatbelts significantly reduce the risk of serious injury or death in an accident. By providing a realistic and memorable experience, THP helps increase citizen awareness and promote safer behaviors, supporting ongoing efforts to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities across Tennessee.
We will be bringing back the Seat Belt Convincer. This will allow citizens to see how important wearing their seat belt really is even in a low impact crash.
Some of your favorite local agencies will again be present and participating in the “Touch a Truck.” We are excited to partner with the McNairy County Sheriff’s Office to offer free car seat checks. Please stop by their tent and make sure your child is in the proper child restraint device.
The Kid’s Corner will be set up with inflatables sponsored by Southern Snow Shaved Ice and Inflatables. VLM Realty and Auction Group is sponsoring FREE snow cones. Reel Church Youth Group will be doing face painting. Adamsville NAPA Auto Parts will be sponsoring FREE hot dogs, chips, and drinks served by Reel Church.
We will have two driving courses set up. One with the SIDNE (Simulated Impaired Driving Experience) cart and the Pedal cart. On these courses, you can wear the “drunk goggles” and get a glimpse at why it is not safe to drive impaired.
THC goggles will make their debut at this event with a few interactive games to represent how much marijuana can affect your vision and actions. McNairy County Health Department will also be set up with their “smoke” goggles showing the effects of smoking cigarettes and vapes on your eyes.
Join your local agencies for a fun, laid back community event all about keeping our friends, families, and neighbors safe on the road.
