Halloween is nearing and there are plenty of upcoming activities in Hardin and McNairy counties to help you celebrate.
There are events to delight those who just like to have fun, as well for others who enjoy the thrill of being scared.
Fun for all
•The Sheltering Tree Ranch, 3100 Tenn. 226, Savannah, is hosting its Third Annual Treat Trail on Friday, Oct. 25, 5-7 p.m.
This is a Christian ministry event, not a Halloween celebration, and includes walking on trails where attendees may discover that candy does grow on trees, traditional trunk and treats, and a walk through the ranch’s horse barn to receive a treat from the excellently dressed equines. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes, but all are welcome regardless of attire.
•There will be a Glow Halloween Carnival at the McNairy Ag Event Center in Selmer, 851 High School Road, on Friday, 5-10 p.m.
•There will also be a family friendly Halloween dance on Friday at the former Nixon school building at 4455 Highway 128, Savannah. The dance is from 7-11 p.m.
•Freddy T’s Shake Shack, 12780 Tenn. 57, Counce, is giving out free waffle cones to those who come dressed in costume on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2-4 p.m.
There will also be a trunk and treat at the Freddy T’s restaurant parking lot, 12750 Tenn. 57, Counce, from 2-4 p.m.
• First Baptist Church, 100 Old Hwy 57, is hosting a free Fall Festival on Saturday, 3-5 p.m.., and includes games, cake walk, bingo, hayrides and Kick it in the Sticks Axe Throwing.
•Michie is also hosting a Fall Festival at its city park, 6196 Tenn. 57. The event starts at 10 a.m. and includes vendors, kids games, live music, trick or treating, costume contests and more. Note there is a small entrance fee to attend.
•People’s Tabernacle Church, 20 Airways Boulevard, Savannah, is also hosting its Fall Festival on Saturday, 6-7:30 p.m.
•There is a Halloween Park in Savannah, 1305 Centerview Road, where guests can drive through or park and walk to view the creative decorations. The “park” is open to visitors until Saturday Nov. 2, from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
•On Halloween night, Thursday, Oct. 31, downtown Selmer is hosting a Halloween Street Party from 5-8 p.m. There will also be a Trunk or Treat hosted by the Dry Creek Mafia at Old Family Video, 180 Florence Road, Savannah. Walnut Grove Cafe, 4420 Tenn. 69, Savannah, is also hosting a “Spooktacular” Trunk or Treat in its parking lot starting at 5:30 p.m. The event features an outdoor showing of the movie “Hocus Pocus” and a haunted house.
Terrifying and spooky events
If being scared is how you like to celebrate your Halloween, there are local places for you to enjoy too.
•District 3 Fire Station 4, 5500 Tenn. 142, Counce, is holding its “Fireman’s Fright Night, A Haunted House You Won’t Forget,” on Friday, Oct. 25, and Saturday, Oct. 26, 6-10 p.m.
•Another haunted attraction is Derailed Haunted House in Ramer, Tennessee. Located at 4385 Tenn. 57-W., Derailed is in a former train depot building and will be open Friday and Saturday, and on Halloween night, from 7-11 p.m.
•Pickwick Landing State Park, 116 State Park Road, Counce, is hosting its “Scarybook Trail,” on Saturday, from 7-9 p.m. The event includes a short hayride shuttle from the marina parking lot to the storybook trail for a spooky quarter-mile hike with a new spooky story this year.
•For those looking to trick-or-treat on Halloween night, Adamsville and Savannah are hosting treat gathering events.
Children can participate in Adamsville’s Halloween Trick or Treat Trail at City Park, 215 Crowe St., starting at 5 p.m.
Savannah’s popular Treat Street is returning to its roots this year and will be held downtown, rather than at Tennessee Street Park.
Local businesses, organizations and people will be handing out treats at the city’s Market Pavilion, 470 Main St., as well as on Court Street behind the county courthouse at 465 Main St.. Savannah’s Treat Street event starts at 5 p.m. and will end at 7 p.m.
