Hardin County storm debris removal options, sites

Posted

Hardin County residents have several locations at which to dispose of debris after the severe storms and tornadoes.

Storm debris can be left only at these county convenience centers:

•Saltillo, 40 Handy Corner Road

•Crump, 9450 Tenn. 22

•Hardin County Fairgrounds, 465 Harlem St., Savannah

Hours are Monday-Wednesday, 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., and then 3-6 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, 1-6 p.m. These locations will be closed on Thursdays for debris removal.

The Hardin County Solid Waste Department instructs that wood and brush debris needs to be separated from construction and household debris.

If a resident has no way to haul storm debris to any of the designated sites, plans are in the works for roadside collection.

For roadside collection, keep wood and brush separate from construction and household debris, and make piles as close as possible to the road without blocking any culverts.

If debris is mixed together, it will not be picked up. Also, do not place any debris on the roadway or in a ditch.

Pickup dates for storm debris have not yet been announced and it may be several weeks until a contractor for removal is selected.
