Hardin County teacher charged with shooting into pharmacy, suspended without pay

Hardin County High School history teacher Todd Alexander has been arrested and charged with one felony count each of reckless endangerment and vandalism, according to Savannah police.

Alexander, 31, of Savannah, named in the police report as Christopher Carl Alexander II, is alleged to have shot at the Main Street Pharmacy in Savannah on Saturday at about 5:20 p.m., hitting the building five times.

According to a preliminary investigative report, off-duty Savannah Police Department Capt. T.J. Barker reported hearing gunshots in the area of Wayne Road and Main Street, while stopped at a red light.

Officers responded to investigate, but nothing was found at that time.

The report says that Monday morning an employee of the pharmacy “arrived at work and noticed bullet holes in a window of their business.”

Responding officers confirmed there were four bullet holes in the glass and one in the metal frame around the glass window.

SPD Sgt. Investigator Timmy Keen arrived and photographed the scene and collected evidence, while Barker reviewed security video from the business.

Information from video evidence led officers to Alexander as a potential suspect. After being interviewed by Barker, Alexander was arrested without incident and charged, police said.

Alexander is believed to have been released on bond of an unknown amount on Tuesday.

Hardin County Director of Schools Michael Davis said Tuesday afternoon that Alexander is suspended without pay, per school board policy, until the investigation is complete and the charges are resolved.
