Native American myths focus of Shiloh Night Sky program on Nov. 26

UPDATE, NOV. 21 – Due to a weather forecast that features cloudy conditions and rain, the Night Sky program scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 26, at Shiloh is being postponed. A new date for the program has not been determined at this time.

ORIGINAL STORY -- To celebrate Native American Heritage Month, Shiloh National Military Park is hosting its first Night Sky program on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 8 p.m.

The park is still closed after dark, but Park Superintendent Allen Etheridge has authorized the limited use of the park for visitors attending the program. The night sky program takes place near the Shiloh Indian Mounds Complex in Cloud Field.

A park ranger will take visitors on a tour of the night sky, sharing Native American myths as participants view stars, planets, and other celestial bodies while using the park’s equipment. Attendees are asked not to bring telescopes to the event because it is a program and not a star party. Visitors are encouraged to bring a chair, warm clothing, and their imagination.

There will be a walk of less than 300 yards on pavement and the program is accessible to all.
