Sheriff-Elect Johnny Alexander: Number 1 duty is protect and serve

Hardin County Sheriff Johnny Alexander made the following statement Friday night about his election Thursday:

First, to my wife and family who have allowed me the opportunity to serve our community at a greater level-- Your love, support, and grace make up my greatest asset and further fuels my desire to be a better husband, father, and grandfather before I am anything else.

To George Ann and T.J. Barker, I would like to say thank you for running a classy campaign that consisted of a lot of heart and concern for the community we both love, appreciate and are honored to serve in. I am grateful for the service that T.J. has provided this community for many years.

To the residents of Hardin County and all of its respective communities-- No matter which candidate you cast your vote for, thank you for your participation in the election process. We share the same love, concern, and appreciation for Hardin County. I look forward to tackling the challenges we face while continuing to build upon the strengths and great culture we have in this community. The number one duty and responsibility I have is to protect and serve and I look forward to getting to work for you on Sept. 1.

I would also like to express a great gratitude to Sheriff Sammy Davidson. For the greater part of my career, I have been fortunate to grow, learn, and experience the leadership, character, and heart of a man who has consistently been a stable force in keeping our community safe. Your relentless service which included a lifestyle of sleepless nights, precious time away from family, and a deep desire to maintain safety for Hardin County will never escape my thoughts. You have shown me the greatest example of honoring your commitment even when you didn’t get credit, recognition, or trophies. I wish you many years, milestones and memories with your family.

Last but not least, I thank God for keeping me safe throughout the 36 years I have served in law enforcement. There are many men and women who wear the uniform and give their lives in service.
