Eddie Shelton Haggard was born Sept. 25, 1953 in Hardin County, the son of the late James Edward Haggard and Evelyn Love Haggard.
Eddie’s early years were filled with the joys of sports, when he showcased his great talents as a basketball and baseball player during his school days. He graduated in 1971 from Hardin County Central High School. He began working at an early age with his daddy at Savannah Ready Mix. Eddie loved the thrill of riding his motorcycle after graduating high school. He enjoyed nascar track racing, loved going to the beach every summer with his family and friends. In the fall every year he loved going to the Smoky Mountains with his and Pam’s furbaby “Sammi.”
He retired from PCA of Counce after 30 years. He was known for his meticulous nature, he took great pride in maintaining a neat and beautiful yard. He enjoyed entertaining friends over to grill out steaks. Enjoyed the outdoors in the summer and spending time on the river or at the swimming pool.
Eddie’s heart extended generously to those in need. He had a soft spot for animals and he often gave to the animal shelters. Eddie made it known that when he passed on from this world he wanted to help give to an animal shelter of his choosing. He would often say, “I want my flowers now, not when I’m gone and can’t even see them.” His wishes were in lieu of flowers to donate to the McNairy County Humane Society in care of Tina Churchwell, P.O. Box 1083 Selmer, Tenn. 38375. Donations can be sent to Paypal or Venmo account name tlc.mchs@yahoo.com or mail check to address above.
Eddie will be remembered as a gentle giant and always willing to lend a hand to others without seeking recognition in return. He will be missed greatly. He left a lasting impression with those who knew him well. After a long illness, Eddie was ready to meet his Heavenly Father and go to his new mansion in Heaven.
He is survived by the love of his life of 27 years, confidant, and caretaker for the last 5 years, Pam Scott; special cousin, Jane Gibbs; extended family, Jerry Scott, Jerry Lynn Scott and family, Michael and Shelia Smith, Max and Wanda Harris, Justin and Stephanie Wicker, Drake Wicker, Michael McCormick; and host of other cousins, and friends.
