Barn in the USA: Hardin County Agricultural Fair underway

Hardin County’s popular Agriculture Fair featuring livestock shows, exhibits, carnival rides and more got underway Monday.

This year’s theme is “Barn in the USA,” and the fair has one admission price for access to arena events along with exhibits and carnival rides. Food and games are additional.

“The Fair Board does a tremendous job of hosting this annual fall event. It just excites young and old alike with neon carnival lights, thrill rides, entertainment, animal shows, vendor booths and great smelling food,” said Hardin County Tourism Director Beth Pippin.

“Fair time is all about all-American family fun and making memories,” Pippin added.

The carnival opened Monday night, Sept. 19, with beauty pageants being the special event. Additional beauty pageants will also be held on Tuesday starting at 6:30 p.m. and on Thursday also starting at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 20, special events include a swine show at 6 p.m. and Southern Supercross side by side show at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 21, special events include Hardin County High School musical performance group “Wired,” and Southern Supercross junk car jump and run. Both are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 22, special events include a Lego building contest from 6 to 8 p.m., and Calvary Rodeo featuring mutton busting starting at 6 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 23, special events include a goat show at 6 p.m. and USA Pullers truck and tractor pull at 7 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 24 is the fair’s closing night and special events include a pet and dog show at 12:30 p.m., glamorous goat gala at 1:30 p.m., and a full-size demolition derby at 7 p.m.

The Hardin County Agricultural Fair will be at the county’s fairgrounds, 665 Clifton Road in Savannah. Gates open Monday through Friday at 5 p.m., with rides beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, gates open at 8:30 a.m., with rides beginning at 2 p.m.
