Cecil N. Godwin, 94, of Savannah, departed this life on Tuesday, March 25. He was born on Dec. 13, 1930, in Savannah, Tennessee, the son of the late Grady and Marie Young Godwin.
On Dec. 24, 1949, he was united in marriage to Celia B. Lard, who survives.
Mr. Godwin honorably served his country for 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. The Air Force took him many places, including California, Texas, England, Florida, France, Thailand, Oklahoma, and Greece. Cecil was a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Savannah, Tennessee. He served as a deacon for many years. He taught Sunday School for men for several years, but his favorite class to teach was boys from first through sixth grade. He loved gardening, raising fruits and vegetables, but his passion was flowers, especially roses. After retiring from the the U.S. Air Force, he had a career in carpentry, farming, and ranching. Cecil could be quite mischievous and loved pulling pranks on people. He was very involved in the community and loved helping others.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Celia B. Godwin; daughters, Sandra C. Owens and her husband Tommy and Denise G. Mallette and her husband Don; brothers, Willis Godwin and his wife Kathleen and Lonnie Godwin; sister, Ollie Gremmels; grandchildren, Lana Silvia (Robert), Tina Conaway (Jeff), Jon Mallette, Joe Mallette (Amy), Jenny Threadgill, Lennie Farmer (Kevin), and Jason Mallette (Angie); great-grandchildren, Alex Silvia (Jessica), Aaron Silvia (Sarah), Lindsay Wigal (Lucas), Courtney Austin (Tyler), Camryn Conaway, Bailee Farmer, Peyton Farmer, Weston Farmer, Walker Farmer, Cindy Mallette, Zoe Mallette, Owen Mallette, Braxton Medina, Maddison Medina, Cecilia Mallette, Tyler Murphy, Elora Threadgill, Camilla Threadgill, and Lyla Threadgill; great-great-grandchildren, Noah Kapphahn-Silvia, Hunter Silvia, Hayden Silvia, Miles Austin, Lucy Wigal, Mason Silvia, Hayley Mabry, Daylen Mabry, and Ryder Tames; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his sister, Delois Morris; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Godwin.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, April 1, at Sharon Baptist Church in Savannah, Tennessee, with Eric Smith officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Hermon Cemetery in Savannah, Tennessee.
