David P. “Chug” Willoughby
David P. “Chug” Willoughby, 82, of Savannah, died on Friday, May 22, at his home.
He was the son of Lindsey and Blanche Lackey Willoughby, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Willoughby served his country in the United States Army. He went on to build a career on the river, working as a towboat captain for many years. Prior to his retirement, he also served as a port captain for two different companies.
He was a member of Hollands Creek Church.
He is survived by his wife Myra; his son Chet; and his brother Jimmy Willoughby.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Jane Frazier; and his brothers Charles Willoughby, Joe Willoughby and Bobby Willoughby.
Funeral service was held at Shackelford’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 26, with Randy Weatherington and Robert Wood officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery at Savannah.
