Ernest Donison Savoie Jr. (Ernie), 74, of Oakland,Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, March 2, the son of the late Grace Jeanette Pollan Savoie and Ernest Donison Savoie Sr.
He is survived by his sister Patricia Savoie Streeter.
He was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith. Ernie was currently employed by Amazon. He graduated from Trezevant High School and then enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps, where he became a data analyst technician with the Marine Air Wing and served with a dedicated unit which provided security to the President of the United States. He was awarded by the Third Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine of the month in May 1971.
He earned the rank of Sergeant before departing the Marine Corps in 1972. He enrolled at Memphis State University and was a member of the PI KAPPA PHI Fraternity, the Gamma Delta Chapter.
He then began his banking career with First Tennessee Bank until his retirement in 1994. He was then the sole owner of his family’s business Savoie’s Carpet Binding Services. He then went to work as a certified pharmacy technician for Walgreens.
Interment will be at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Memphis, Tennessee. The VA has not yet assigned a date for his service.
