Hardin County Convention and Visitors Bureau and Tennessee Riverline are hosting the third annual “Christmas Hike Along the River” at Pickwick Landing State Park this weekend.

The hike takes place at the park’s 2.8 mile Island Loop Trail. Hardin County Assistant Tourism Director Camila Tato said all are invited to experience the scenery.

“This event is the perfect blend of natural beauty, history and holiday cheer. Participating promises an unforgettable experience for visitors and residents alike. This easy, natural surface hike is perfect for all ages and fitness levels. The trail meanders through lush, woodsy terrain, skirting the shores of the Tennessee River,” she said.

The hike is led by a state park ranger who shares facts and stories about the park and its surroundings.

There will also be a representative from Tennessee Riverline to greet hikers and share the organization’s goal of advancing regional connectivity, river stewardship and outdoor recreation.

“Hikers will also receive a special ‘Fit as a Fiddle’ key chain as a memento of their journey along the Tennessee River,” Tato noted.

The hike is on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m. Participants should wear weather appropriate clothing, closed toe shoes and bring a water bottle.

“We encourage participants to bring family, friends, and their Christmas smiles, of course. In the spirit of the season, dressing up in festive attire is highly recommended for some memorable photo opportunities,” Tato suggested.

If the weather isn’t conducive for a hike, the event will move indoors to The Lodge for some crafting activities, Tourism Director Beth Pippin said Friday morning.
