James Larry Cooksey, 81, of Selmer, departed this life on Sunday, June 1, in Corinth, Mississippi. He was born May 23, 1944, in McNairy County, Tennessee, the son of the late Oscar Thedus Cooksey and Bessie Agnes Blanton Cooksey. Larry’s journey through life led him to unite in marriage with Jackie Gray on June 7, 1993, creating a partnership filled with love and support. Together, they built a life rich in memories and shared moments that will forever be treasured. Larry was an active member of the Second Baptist Church in Selmer, where he found community and fellowship. He served in the Tennessee National Guard. He dedicated 34 years of his career to the Packaging Corporation of America before retiring. Following his retirement, Larry discovered a passion for woodworking. Larry enjoyed going to the mountains, where he found peace and contentment. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Cooksey of Selmer; children, Tracy Cosby and husband Tim, Jamie Cooksey, Lee Ann Gill (David Russell) all of Selmer; three grandchildren, Matthew Cosby and wife Emily, Emma Cosby, Anna Cosby; and brother, Ricky Cooksey and wife Katina of Stantonville, Tennessee. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, June 3, at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, Tennessee. Burial followed at Lake Hill Memorial Gardens in Bethel Springs, Tennessee.
