John Rosser Murray

Posted

John Rosser Murray, 77, of Counce, a loving father, grandfather and husband, died on Saturday, October 25, peacefully at home. He was born January 10, 1948, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Jean Magee Murray and Ruffner Page Murray Sr., who both preceded him in death.
Rosser graduated from Memphis Central High School in 1966 and attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville. His work life included Memphis Furniture Company as distribution manager and The Troxel Company in Moscow as sales manager. He also ran his own residential irrigation company but his love was for genealogy and history.
Rosser completed a family tree for both sides of the family going back to the 1600s and was a Civil War and World War II enthusiast. An excellent golfer, he held a low handicap and loved playing with his beloved wife Joy. Rosser was most at home on the water. He was an avid boater and he and Joy chose Pickwick Lake for their retirement home.
Rosser was preceded in death by his brother, Ruffer Page Murray Jr. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joy Barlow Murray; and their daughter, Amy Page Murray, both of Counce; along with his grandson Gavin Murray Summers of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by his sister Sandra Murray Polk of Nashville; and sister-in-law Judi Murray of Monteagle.
A celebration of life will be held in the next few weeks. The family requests memorials be made to the Medical Education & Research Institute (MERI) Genesis program or the Alzheimer’s Association.
