Marilyn Kathleen Outlaw Holt, 78, of Excel, Alabama, beloved wife, devoted mother, and doting grandmother, passed peacefully from this life into eternity at her residence on Sunday, November 16, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on June 15, 1947, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Howard and Helen Distler Outlaw. Kathleen grew up in Savannah, Tennessee, moving to south Alabama in 1978. Throughout her life she was known for both her kindness and humble generosity. She had a heart for those in need and quietly went about meeting those needs. She possessed an incredible work ethic and mind for business. She was a tenacious salesman and could sell you the socks you were already wearing. Known as “Kat” by Jerry, she demonstrated love for her family not just through words, but with constant action, being their greatest cheerleader and most fierce protector. Her greatest love was being the lifelong wife and partner to James Jerry Holt. She married Jerry on September 26, 1963. Their 62 years together were filled with raising a family of three children, birthing hundreds of cattle, delivering dozens of puppies, filling their home with antique glassware, and sharing laughter and friendship that set a beautiful example of Christian marriage. They could be routinely seen holding hands as they walked through the grocery store. Kathleen’s greatest joy was spending time with family, creating cherished memories that will live on forever. Kathleen is survived by her husband of 62 years, James Jerry Holt; her sons Tim Holt, Wayne Holt (Angela Packard Holt;) daughter, Laura Holt Matthews (Mac Matthews;) grandchildren, Andrew Holt (Ashley Holt), Zach Holt, Jamie Matthews (Whitney Matthews,) Rachel Matthews, Cameron Holt (Chelsea Holt,) Alex Holt, Hayley Holt, and Cooper Holt; and great-grandchildren, Maddy Feaster, Eli Holt, Blane Holt, Camden Holt and Judah Matthews; as well as her brother-in-law, Marion Holt (Clara Ruth Holt;) and numerous nieces and nephews. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Helen Outlaw; her sister Phyllis Seaton; and brother Charles Outlaw. Her love and warmth will continue to inspire all who knew her. The family will receive visitors at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home, 2252 Highway 84 West Frisco City, AL, on Friday November 21, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 22, at 10:30 a.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home followed by a private burial at Excel Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate her life. As a longtime supporter, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her memory.
