Mary R. Chandler, 90, of Glenview, Illinois, the beloved wife of the late Joe E. Chandler, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Thursday, January, 1.
Mary was born on May 19, 1935, in Michie, TN, to George and Myrtle (Bray) Coln. On October 20, 1952, she married Joe E. Chandler. They raised two daughters, Connie and Deborah, and a son, Mike.
In the family’s early years in Orlando, Florida, Mary worked at Merrill Lynch while Joe served in the Marine Corps and went on to attend Rollins College. The family moved to Chicago, Illinois, in 1964. Mary attended Oakton Community College in Niles, earning an AA degree. She went on to earn a B.A. from Northeastern Illinois University and an M.S.W. from the Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois, Chicago.
Mary was a very active member at the First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge. She served as president and treasurer of United Methodist Women. Mary was a talented seamstress and quilter. She was known for her candied pecans, pecan tassies, pecan pies, and homemade strawberry jelly.
Mary is survived by her children, Connie Chandler (Kevin McFall), Deborah Chandler (Arn Schaeffer), and Mike Chandler (Gina Ronchetti), her grandchildren, Sam Zwick (Jamie Warren), Maggie Chandler, and Joe Chandler, and her great-grandson, Cassian Zwick.
A service for immediate family will be held in Tennessee at a later date. The family requests no flowers or donations.
