Anna Marie Burney

Anna Marie Burney, 77, of Corinth, Miss., died Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Dogwood Plantation.

Funeral services were held at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, on Saturday, Dec.1, at 11 a.m., with Scotty Wood and Karl Mills officiating. Interment followed at Dogwood Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 22, 1935.

She retired from Regions Bank, formerly Security Bank of Corinth with 45 years of service. She was a charter member of Maranatha Baptist Church. Maranatha Baptist Church started in the Burney home. She was the pianist and Sunday school teacher at the church. She loved playing the piano.

Mrs. Burney loved her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She loved taking the grandchildren to Chuck E. Cheese and to McDonald’s for a Happy Meal. She enjoyed taking them to the city park and reading to them and all her grandchildren loved her black cake. She loved her church family and was always thinking of others and was a very giving person. She always felt that it was important to live your life honest, truthful and above board.

Mrs. Anna Marie Burney was such an important part in securing funding through Deposit Guaranty National Bank (Regions Bank) for the beginning of Magnolia Funeral Home, Inc. in 1993. Without her tireless energy in insuring that the funding was provided by their bank, there would not be a Magnolia Funeral Home in Corinth, Miss. The owners of Magnolia Funeral Home, Inc. have always been and will continue to be grateful for the life and friendship of Mrs. Anna Marie Burney and her family.

In addition to her husband of 57 years James Travis Burney Sr. of Corinth, Miss., she is survived by a son, James Travis Burney Jr. and wife Joyce of Tupelo, Miss.; daughters, Susan Ann Burney Clark and husband Harold of Clifton; Lisa Ann Burney Byrd and husband Sims of The Woodlands, Texas; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, William Mayhall and wife Franziska of Franklin, Tenn.; Larry Mayhall and wife Nila of Savannah; Jack Mayhall and wife Jeanette of Counce; sister, Katherine Winters and husband Frank of Adamsville; sisters-in-law, Joanne Mayhall of Counce; Peggy Mayhall of Corinth, Miss.; other relatives and a host of friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Maranatha Baptist Church Sunday school program in memory of Anna Marie Burney for her 50 + years of service. Maranatha Baptist Church, 14 CR 106, Corinth, MS 38834.

She was preceded in death by her father, Sherman Mayhall Sr.; mother, Ella Mae Dunn Mayhall; brothers, Sherman Mayhall Jr., David Mayhall, James Lloyd Mayhall.
