Arden Murphy Jr. was born in Hardin County on March 24, 1933, the son of the late Arden and Amy English Murphy.
On Sept. 12, 1953, he was united in marriage to Barbara Sue Briley, who survives.
 Mr. Murphy served his country in the United States National Guard. He was a retired carpenter and construction worker.  Mr. Murphy was a member of Counce United Pentecostal Church. He loved bluegrass and southern gospel music and he played guitar and wrote and sang gospel music.
Mr. Murphy departed this life on Tuesday, July 5, at his residence in Savannah, at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 11 days.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, to whom he was married for 62 years; his children, Sandy Duncan and her husband Roy of Morris Chapel, Wanda Seratt and her husband Chuck of South Fulton, Tennessee and Randy Murphy and his wife Renee of Decaturville, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Adam Droke and wife Hager, Chuck Seratt and wife Rebecca, Justin Murphy and wife Katie, Kyle Murphy and wife Sarah, Bethany Carter and husband Michael and Anna Hollandsworth and husband Gaven; four great-grandchildren, Vincent Latch, Stephen Allen Droke, Jaxon Thomas Carter and Ella Claire Hollandsworth; three sisters, Faye Terry, Naomi Pevahouse and Goldie Couch; and one brother, Jerry Murphy. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Katherine Brown; one brother, Lloyd Murphy; and his grandparents, S.S. English, Nettie Hunt English, William R. Murphy and Maggie Taylor Murphy. 
Services were held on Friday, July 8, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Glen Miller officiating. Burial followed in Wesley’s Chapel Cemetery at Savannah.
