On Thursday, Nov. 30, Bernetta Jean Murphy Clay of San Antonio, Texas, went home to be with her Lord after battling cancer for over a year and a half.
Jean was born in Savannah on Dec. 16, 1952, to Morris “Boss” and Bernice Prince Murphy.
She graduated Central High in 1971. On Dec. 7, 1974, she married the love of her life, Barney Russell Clay at Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Jean worked at Randolph Independent School District from 1987-2010 in various postions with special needs children over the course of 23 years.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and brother Larry Murphy.
She is survived by her spouse of 43 years; daughter, Marisa (John Zulauf) Clay and daughter, Brandi (Gabriel Franco) Clay; granddaughters, Tessa Franco and Emmarie Zulauf; sisters, Melinda Richardson and Marsetta Jerrolds; and brother, Michael Murphy.
Jean took great pride in being a devoted Air Force wife, mother and grandmother. She was big hearted and always willing to lend assistance whenever needed. She loved music, gardening and any outdoor activities.
Her family request that in lieu of flowers donations be contributed to the USO at secure.uso.org. A lovely memorial webpage, www.neptunesociety.com, has been created by the family with pictures, movies and a story board for you to leave comments, found memories and stories about Mrs. Clay. All you need to do is search for Bernetta Clay to gain access to her memorial webpage. All posts to the webpage will be turned into a keepsake memory book for the family at a later date.
