Betty Sue Smith

Betty Sue Smith was born in Hardin County on Sept. 19, 1926, the daughter of the late Herschel Howard and Louella Hurst Wolfe.

On July 5, 1946, she was united in marriage to Harvey Smith Jr., who survives.

Mrs. Smith retired from Brown Shoe Company, where she worked as an office clerk. She was the community seamstress, a great cook and an avid antique collector, refinishing many items of furniture. She loved her family, her grandchildren and working in her flower gardens. Mrs. Smith was a member of the East End United Methodist Church for 50 years. She loved working at her church and was a Sunday school teacher for more than 20 years.

Mrs. Smith departed this life on Sunday, March 13, at the age of 84 years, 5 months, 22 days.

In addition to her husband, Harvey of Savannah, she is survived by two daughters, Libby Smith Jones and Jeannie Smith Shelby, both of Savannah; three grandchildren, Brad Jones and wife Tiffany, Justin Shelby, Kristen Tomlinson and husband Justin; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Trae and Tate Tomlinson; two brothers, Jack Wolfe and Jerry Wolfe, both Savannah.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Drexel Wolfe.

Services were held on Wednesday, March 16, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Pastor Mary Foote officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery at Hardin County.
