Buddy Clayton Sr.

Edgar "Buddy" Clayton Sr. was born in Lawrence County, Tenn., on Jan. 17, 1946, the son of Ella N. Smith Clayton and the late Ernest C. Clayton.

On April 9, 1966, he was united in marriage to Billie Brown, who survives.

Buddy spent most of his career in manufacturing with Genesco, Inc., in their facilities in Nashville, Gallatin, New Johnsonville and Waynesboro. He worked for Clayton Homes for 13 years where he was the sidewall department supervisor. Buddy was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. Buddy was a member of First United Methodist Church in Waynesboro. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time.

Buddy departed this life on Thursday, Nov. 29, in Savannah, at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 12 days.

In addition to his wife Billie of Savannah, he is survived by his children, Ernie Clayton and his wife Cindy, and Phillip Clayton and his wife Debbie, all of Savannah; four grandchildren, Taylor Clayton, Trey Clayton and Bryan Clayton, all of Savannah, and Sara Sykes and her husband Chris of Huntsville, Ala.; his mother, Ella Clayton of Waynesboro; one sister, Shirley Jo Staggs of Waynesboro.

In addition to his father, Buddy was also preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Clark.

Services were held on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Keith Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Campground Cemetery at Hardin County.
