Charline C. Sharp passed away Friday, Sept. 18, at the age of 97 years.
Born June 19, 1918, in Rayville, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Charlie H. and Mary Carnell and raised in Ackerman, Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by husband, Lanie G. Sharp, parents, and siblings, Jean Harris, Sara Carnell, Marshall Carnell and Lucille Carpenter.
Survived by stepson, John Sharp (Sue) of Macon, Georgia; sister-in-law, Nell Carnell of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Linda Sarenana of Nashville, Don Sharp (Sherry) of Smyrna, Tennessee, Karen Smith of Brunswick, Georgia, Paul Sharp (Kathy) of Macon, Georgia, Kathy Kossum of Natchez, Mississippi, Maria Lambert of Natchez, Mississippi, and Stacey Pendergrast of Houston, Texas; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Charline had a career in civil service, working in Natchez, Mississippi, Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and Pearl City, Hawaii, before retiring from the Mississippi River Commission in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She was a former member and church secretary of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Savannah and most recently a member of the Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Savannah.
The family would like to express gratitude to the friends and caregivers whose kindness made her wish of living in her home at Bruton Branch possible–Carolyn Goodman, Mary Jo Johnson, Carolyn Nolen, Zan and Mark Marenchin, Faye Trim, and Sis Hefner. Special thanks to Annie Laurie Thornton of Madison, Mississippi, for her nightly phone calls that were so important to her. We also appreciate the community at Bruton Branch for their thoughtfulness and longtime friendships.
Services were held on Monday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Savannah with Duwayne Pounds officiating. Burial followed in Houston Cemetery at Guys, Tennessee.
