Clara Sue Alley was born May 9, 1932, in Wayne County to Oliver Earl and Myrtle Moore Alley.

Ms. Alley departed this life Friday, Jan. 3, at Hardin Medical Center, Savannah.

She graduated from Frank Hughes High School, Clifton, in 1951. She immediately moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where she worked at Union Carbide Corporation and later Martin Marietta Energy Systems at the Department of Energy Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Y-12 and K-25 sites. She retired to St. Pete Beach, Florida in 1987 and enjoyed 25 wonderful years on the Gulf of Mexico. She moved to Savannah in her later years to be closer to family.

She was a faithful member of Riverview Baptist Church and loved sitting on the front row. She also enjoyed traveling, entertaining guests and was a wonderful storyteller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Margaret Wheat and Mary Ann Riddell; two brothers, Oliver Earl Alley Jr. and Charles Alley; and a niece, Suzanne Alley Wilson.

Left to cherish her memory are  sister, Katherine Pleasant;  brother, J.W. Alley; nieces and nephews, Kathy Petty, Janice Welch, Billy Alley, Michael Alley, Beth Gaughan, Angela Boggan, Mark Alley, Lana Westmoreland, Sheri Riddell and Shannon Riddell; her special friend, Ross Fansler; brother-in-law, Jerry Riddell;  sister-in-law, Ann Alley; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; and a host of life long friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverview Baptist Church, The Darryl Worley Cancer Treatment Center or Hardin County Cancer Association.

A celebration of life service will be held at Riverview Baptist Church, Savannah, on Saturday, Feb. 29, with visitation at 1 p.m. and the service at 2.
