Curtis Wallace

Curtis Wallace, beloved father and devoted husband, passed away quietly surrounded by his family on May 26, as a result of an accident. He was 83 years old.

Curtis lived a rich and blessed life filled with love, laughter and friendship. He faced many obstacles during his life but overcame them with an overwhelmingly positive attitude and tremendous determination.

He held many jobs in his life. He was an automotive assembly line worker, cook aboard a barge, and orderly at a psychiatric hospital prior to entering the medical field. He performed both respiratory and physical therapy in Parsons and at Hardin County Hospital in Savannah. He was an emergency medical technician and helped to establish the Decatur County Ambulance Service, serving as its first director. Later in life, he worked as the director of the Parsons/Decatur County Housing and Urban Development office as well as a bank courier.

But favorite among the jobs he held was his time as a physician’s assistant at the Decatur County Clinic in Parsons where he helped the sick and injured.

He was preceded in death by his parents Will and Lucy Wallace of Reagan, Tenn.

He is survived by his bride of 60 years Jane Austin Wallace. He is also survived by a daughter Wanda (Roger) Hawley of Savannah; and a son, Tim Wallace of Starkville, Miss. He is survived by two grandchildren: Paul (Keri) Hawley of Clifton and Jeff Hawley of Savannah, as well as one great-grandchild, Hunter Hawley.

He is survived by two brothers: Wayne (Rebecca) Wallace of Adamsville and Glen (Barbara) Wallace of Parsons along with three nephews and two nieces.

Funeral services are Thursday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at Parsons Church of Christ. He was buried at Holmes Cemetery in Scotts Hill. Arrangements by Reed’s Chapel-Decaturville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Parsons Church of Christ, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the American Cancer Society.
