E.G. Sowell, 87, of Adamsville, died Tuesday, June 3, in Adamsville. He was born in Stantonville the son of the late Elmer and Jewel Thacker Sowell. He was united in marriage to Emma Gean Bratton who survives.

Mr. Sowell was a truck driver. He was a member of Meeks Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Adamsville.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Shelia Diane Talbott of Finger and Denise Powell of Savannah; a son, James David Sowell of Morris Chapel; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Aval Roy of Blanchester, Ohio, Freda Fay Holley of Selmer, Nellie Sue Williams of Corinth, Miss. and four brothers, Thurmond “Pee Wee” Sowell of Bethel Springs, Fred Sowell of Corinth, Miss., Richard Neal Sowell of Stantonville and Clyde Sowell of Savannah.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fleta Mae Scott, Lou Vonda Stewart and three brothers, Donald Coy Sowell, Edward Sowell and Elmer Olis Sowell.

Services were held Saturday, June 7, in Adamsville with Charles Linam officiating. Burial followed at Adamsville Cemetery.
