J P Gillis, 75, of Savannah, passed away on Dec. 24. He was born on Feb. 7, 1948, in Collinwood, Tennessee, the son of the late Coy and Edith Gillis.

On Dec. 7, 1966, he was united in marriage to Sandra Joy Chambers, who survives.

Mr. Gillis worked as a sewing machine mechanic for VF Corporation. He was a member of Spoken Word Church and served as the Pastor there until 2018. He had previously served as the Pastor of Holy Baptist Church and Crossroads Church for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Joy Gillis of Savannah; son, Boyce Jay Gillis and his wife Leiah of Savannah; sister, Linda Thompson of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; grandchildren, Kaylee Paul, Maycee Parmely, Abbie Ritter and Will Ritter; and great-grandchildren, Blakely Paul and Aubrie Wallace.

In addition to his parents, J P was preceded in death by his daughter, Veronica Fuss; and brother, James Allen Gillis.

Memorial services were held on Thursday, Dec. 28, at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Savannah, with Daniel Couch officiating. Burial followed at Cromwell Crossroads Cemetery in Collinwood, Tennessee.
