Jack Dale Barnett, 71, of Counce, died Sunday, May 31.
He was born in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late Dale and Jimmie Barnett. He was united in marriage to Mackie “Sue” Smith.
 For 12 years, Mr. Barnett worked for the Garland Police Department in Garland, Texas before embarking on a career as a federal agent with the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms division of the Department of Justice. Twenty-seven years later he retired and began his third career with the Department of State where he worked as an investigator. His final retirement came 10 years later, but not before he was deployed to Iraq in 2008 as a law enforcement consultant; he was 64 at the time. 
He had served in the United States Marine Corps, was a member of Tri-County Gun and Archery Club, and a Shriner and member of the Garland, Texas Masonic Lodge. He was also active in the Hardin County Republican Committee, having served as the sergeant at arms.
In addition to his wife, Sue, of Counce, he is survived by four children, Tye Barnett of DeQueen, Arkansas, Kelley Barnett of Wylie, Texas, Kathryn Barnett of Wylie, Texas, and Scott Barnett of Missouri as well as 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and his step-son, Chris Nelon of Texas.
Services were held on Wednesday, June 3, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Tye Barnett officiating. Burial followed in Prater’s Chapel Cemetery at Wayne County.
