Jack Collins Jr.

John Walter "Jack" Collins Jr. was born on Sept. 11, 1956, in Mobile, Ala. He died Monday, Dec. 26, at the age of 55.

Jack was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 119 for 32 years. Jack was a union organizer for the last eight years. He was a representative to the Alabama Pipe Trades Council. Mr. Collins was an executive board member for the Southwest Labor Council and a representative to the Mobile/Pensacola Building Trade Council. He was an active volunteer and contributor to United Way.

Jack was highly respected and loved by his family, friends and colleagues. He liked everyone and never met a stranger. He gave freely and asked for nothing in return. Jack will always be remembered for his jovial disposition and sincere compassion for others.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Kim L. Collins; son, John "Johnny" Walter Collins, III; parents, John Walter Collins Sr. and Geraldine Lightsey Collins; siblings: Mike (Nita) Collins, Chuck Collins, Jerry (Diana) Collins, and Lisa (Joe) Stevens; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. Jack was also greatly loved by his Tennessee family: sister-in-law, Dr. Janet L. (George) Cromwell: one special aunt, Ruby Hayes; his second mother, Lucille Lard; and nephew, Chris (Jillian) Vinson, all of Savannah.

Services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Jack Maroon officiating. Burial followed in the Neill Cemetery at Savannah.
