J.D. Young

J.D. Young was born in Hardin County on July 24, 1928, the son of the late Joe D. and Josie Neill Young.

On Sept. 10, 1949, he was united in marriage to Lillie Mae Petty, who preceded her husband in death on Aug. 9, 2008.

Mr. Young was a self-employed plumber and had also worked at Parris Manufacturing. He was a member of Campground Methodist Church.

Mr. Young departed this life on Friday, May 31, in Jackson, Tenn., at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 7 days.

He is survived by his son, Jerry Young of Savannah; three grandchildren, Mandy Broyles, Jenny Smith and Sarah Young; four great-grandchildren, Keagan Hopper, Ellis Smith, Eastyn Smith and Sawyer Smith.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was also preceded in death by one son, Roy Young, one infant son; and one sister, Dorothy Irvin.

Services were held on Sunday, June 2, at 3:30 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Mike Howard officiating. Burial followed in the Campground Cemetery at Hardin County.
