Jean Fondren, 83, of Savannah, died on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

She was born in Hardin County, the daughter of the late James Oliver and Blanche Reed Young. She was united in marriage to James C. "Sonny" Fondren, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Fondren had worked as a seamstress for Brown Shoe Company for 20 years and Savannah Manufacturing for 15 years. She was a member of Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian.

Services were held on Friday, Jan. 11, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Duwayne Pounds, Greg Young, Mark LaRue officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery at Hardin County.

She is survived by a son, Dennis C. Fondren of Savannah; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Gilliam of Savannah; brother, Travis Young of Savannah.

She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter; a brother, R.V. Young; sisters, Irene Spivey and Carrie Fondren.
