Joe Barrier

Joe Barrier, of Savannah, was born in Hardin County, on Jan. 8, 1936, the son of the late Ben Ervin and Roxie Daniels Barrier.

On Sept. 18, 1960, he was united in marriage to Ellen Lewis, who survives.

Mr. Barrier retired after 30 years from the Hardin County Board of Education as a bus driver and custodian. He also was a self-employed farmer and had worked for Rudy’s Farm in Florence, Ala. Mr. Barrier was a member of Second Creek Church of Christ. He lived in the Walnut Grove community and he loved gardening.

Mr. Barrier departed this life on Tuesday, March 23, in Savannah, at the age of 74 years, 2 months and 15 days.

In addition to his wife Ellen of Savannah, he is survived by three daughters, Regina Bromley of Savannah, Kelli Lovelace of Collinwood and Paige Moore of Savannah; one son, Christopher Joe Barrier of Shelbyville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Kayla Bromley, Colton Bromley, Landon Lovelace and Lily Lovelace; three sisters, Stella Haynes of Florence, Ala., Eileen Balentine of Tuscumbia, Ala. and Barbara Barrier of Savannah; one brother, Thomas Barrier of Florence, Ala.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Amy Leigh Barrier; and three brothers, J. H., Freddie and Bennie Barrier.

Services were held on Friday, March 26, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with David Rushlow, Rex Humphrey officiating. Burial was in the Fielder Cemetery at Hardin County.
