John Dunwoody

John E. Dunwoody, 82, of Adamsville, died Monday, March 1.

He was born in Newark, Ohio, the son of the late Edward Samuel and Rosella Barr Dunwoody. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Ann Simmons, who survives.

Mr. Dunwoody was retired from the city of Memphis Fire Department, worked at Baptist Hospital in security, Bartlett fireman and police officer, owner/trainer of Christian Harness Horseman Association, and was an Army veteran from World War II.

In addition to his wife Phyllis Ann Dunwoody of Adamsville, he is survived by two daughters, Kathy Barrowman of Montgomery, Ala., Rosamary Duncan of Palm Coast, Fla.; son, Johnny L. Dunwoody of Adamsville; two step-daughters, Debbie Escarre of Memphis, Patti Young; two stepsons, Ret. Mst. Sgt. Randall Alan Young of Columbus, Miss., Gary Michaet Young of Collierville, Tenn.; sister, Helen Irene Flippin of Lubbock, Texas; step-sister, Lisa Carr of Newark, Ohio; two half-brothers, Elsworth and Ed Dunwoody, both of Newark, Ohio; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 13 step-great-grandchildren;

He was also preceded in death by a half-sister, Mary Agnes Backenstaff; two brothers, William Roy and Eddie Keith Dunwoody.

Memorial service was held on Friday, March 5, at Solitude Baptist Church with Shane Thompson officiating.
