J.S. Allen (2-17-11) services 2-22-11

J.S. Allen, 84, of Saltillo, died Thursday, Feb. 17.

He was born in Hardin County, the son of the late John and Alma Dickey Allen. He was united in marriage to Bobbie D. Allen, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Allen was a store owner and operator for all of his working life. He was the third generation store owner of Allen’s Grocery in Saltillo. He was in public service for more than 60 years. He was a member of the Saltillo United Methodist Church, mayor of Saltillo for 30 years, president of Saltillo Utility District, Woodmen of the World, Savannah Hospital Board and the Freemasons.

Services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Saltillo United Methodist Church in Saltillo with Billy Allegood officiating. Burial was in the White Lawn Cemetery at Saltillo.
