Karen Carpenter Karen Leigh Carpenter, 54, of Counce, died Friday, Oct. 26. She was born in Natchez, Miss., to the late George Kenneth and Marian Maleese Strange Carpenter. Ms. Carpenter was a veteran who served her country in the United States Army, as well as the National Guard. She was later employed in the manufacturing industry, the University of Southern Mississippi and by Walmart. A graveside service was held on Oct. 29, at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Bailey, Miss., with Brian Rainey officiating. Memorial donations may be made to any local animal shelter. She is survived by three sisters, Brenda Gilmore of Amory, Miss., Eva Allen of Counce and Judy Hammond of Peachtree City, Ga.; nephews and a niece, great-nieces, and a great-nephew.
