Kathryn Garey Eason

Kathryn Garey Eason died on Sunday, April 8, at the age of 95, in Brentwood, Tenn.

She was the middle child of seven born to William R. and Mary E. McDougal Garey. She was born on April 14, 1916, in Hardin County.

She attended schools in Hardin County and completed her education at Lambuth College and Freed-Hardeman College. She began her career as an elementary school teacher. While in college she met Ruel Eason who became her husband a year later. She and Ruel were married for almost 60 years prior to his death in 1998. They lived in Florence, Ala., for six years before moving to Nashville and later to Brentwood. They were faithful members of Lawrence Avenue and Granny White Churches of Christ. After their retirement they traveled extensively. In October, 1997, they moved to Southerland Place in Brentwood a few months prior to Ruel’s death. Kathryn continued to make her home there among many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ruel and their daughter Elizabeth Ann, who died shortly after her birth. She was also preceded in death by four brothers: Douglas, Chalmers, Edward and William C. Garey, and one sister, Martha Anne Goff.

She is survived by a brother, Jim Garey of Jackson, Tenn., nieces and nephews: Garey Goff, Linda Shadel, Dwight Garey, Nancy Frith, Elizabeth Hyatt, Dan Garey, Kathryn Brinton, David Garey, Mark Garey, Margaret Dyer, Billy Magers, James Eason and Jean Eason, many great-nieces and nephews, and many close friends.

Services were held on Tuesday, April 10, at 2:30 p.m. at the Woodlawn Funeral Home’s Dignity Hall with Brother Dennis Lloyd officiating. Burial followed at the Woodlawn Cemetery.
