Landis Wilkes (1-3-17) service 1-7-17

Landis R. Wilkes, of Savannah, departed this life on Tuesday, Jan. 3,  at the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 22 days. 
He was born in Huntingdon, Tennessee, on Aug. 12, 1933, the son of the late Clark and Ada Daisy Cooper Wilkes. On Nov. 22, 1952, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Jean Weatherford, who preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 2015.
Landis served in the Tennessee National Guard and retired after 32 years. He retired from Tennessee Highway Patrol as a patrolman. Landis enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and cooking. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children, Ronnie Wilkes and wife Pam and Marcy Kilburn and husband Tim, all of Savannah; grandchildren, Jonathan Wilkes and wife Ashley, Kevin Wilkes and wife Missy, Brandon Kilburn and wife Anna, and Brittany Kilburn McNutt and husband Michael; great-grandchildren, Tyler Gammill, Grace Wilkes, Brayden Wilkes, Sophia Wilkes, Maddie Wilkes, Turner Wilkes, Harper Wilkes and Wilkes Conley McNutt; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jewel Dickerson, Dorothy Christian, Louella Moore and Ovie Twyman; and brothers, Willie Gray Wilkes and Jerry Wilkes.    
Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m., at Sharon Baptist Church in Savannah with Eric Smith officiating. Burial  followed in Memory Gardens at Savannah.
