Lorene Powell

Lorene Meek Powell was born in Hardin County, on Nov. 7, 1923, the daughter of the late Jessie Miller and Lillie Ann Davis Meek.

On Nov. 7, 1942, she was united in marriage to Eugene Powell, who preceded his wife in death on Aug. 29, 2006.

Mrs. Powell was a homemaker. She was a member of Hinkle Baptist Church and Sinner’s Hope Church. Mrs. Powell loved gardening and flowers. She also enjoyed cooking, working at her church and she loved her family.

Mrs. Powell departed this life on Tuesday, Sept. 6, in Sardis, Tenn., at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 30 days.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Sue Powell Barstow of Belleville, Mich. and Patsy Ann Powell Campbell of Parsons, Tenn.; one son, Larry Gene Powell of Sardis; three grandchildren, Angela Johnson, Michael Barstow and Jimmy Powell; two great-grandchildren, Hunter Powell and Lorena Scott; one sister, Beatrice McAulley of Bartlett, Tenn.

Services were held on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah, with Lloyd Blankenship officiating. Burial followed in the Milledgeville Cemetery at Milledgeville, Tenn.
