Mackie Briley Hunt, 70, of Savannah, died Sunday, Feb. 21, at Savannah Healthcare Center in Savannah.

She was born in Hardin County on Dec. 19, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Myrtle Davis Hanna and Max Elmer Briley. She was united in marriage to Charles Emory Hunt on Aug. 15, 1959, until April 5, 1994.

She was a retired hairstylist of 31 years. She and Emory were foster parents for 10 years. They fostered 89 children during this time. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church for 33 years.

She had one son, Charles Van Hunt who preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 2001, at the age of 35 years old.

Services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with David Highland officiating. Burial followed in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.

She is survived by two daughters, Lorie Hunt Jackson of Savannah and Kristi Hunt of Olive Hill. Also six grandchildren, Lorie’s children, Lana Brooke Skelton, Colton Todd Lumpkin and Danalee Van Ashton Jackson; Kristi’s children, Kala Brooke Stricklin, Kellie Leann Stricklin and Noah Blake Stricklin. She also had seven great-grandchildren, Lana’s children, Emorie Brooke Skelton and twin boys Ayden Wesley Skelton and Benjamin O’Bryan Skelton, all of Mississippi. Colton’s children, Jaxton Beau Lumpkin of Alabama and Landon Lumpkin of Virginia. Also survived by two sisters, Martha Jane Pitts of Savannah and DeAnna Briley Canabuss of Arkansas; two brothers, Maxwell Briley and Gary Briley of Arkansas.
