Mary D. Welch was born on Feb. 3, 1917 in Savannah, the daughter of the late James Will and Cessel Alexander Wolfe. She was united in marriage to Roy D. Welch on Sept. 5, 1936, who preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 1993.

Mrs. Welch was a member of the Bethlehem Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, sewing and gardening. She cared for many children in her home for working mothers and also was a babysitter for her grandchildren.

An important part of her life was family, friends and neighbors visiting with her in her home.

Mrs. Welch departed this life at Hardin Medical Center in Savannah, on Oct. 12, at the age of 96 years, 8 months and 9 days. She is survived by three children, Patty Wicker, Donnie Welch, James R. “George” Welch, all of Adamsville; seven grandchildren, Todd Wicker and Alan Wicker of Adamsville, Cassie Welch of Moscow, Idaho, Pat Hindmon of Adamsville, Diana Ray of Selmer, Tenn., Andrew Welch of Adamsville and Jimmy Welch of Memphis; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Frankie Kendrick of Savannah and Willie C. Yokum of Laurel, Miss.

In addition to her husband, Roy D. Welch and her parents, she was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Dustin Ray;  four sisters, Jo Kate Barick, Louise Hosea, Faye Willoughby and Marie Shelby, three brothers, Cecil Wolfe, Dee Wolfe and James Wolfe.

Services were held on Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Mike Moore and Glenn Scott officiating. Burial was at the Crump Cemetery in Crump.
