Mary “Joyce” Highland Golomski, 72, of Savannah, died on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

She was born in Hardin County, the daughter of the late R.C. and Lillie Dee Benson Highland.

She is survived by her sons, Ronald Settles and Michael Ray Settles; daughters, Deanna “Missy” Brown and Lori Smith; and nephew, Ronald Stricklin, all of Savannah; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Sandra Perry and Treasa Highland; and brother, Denny Ray Highland.

She not only raised her children, she also stepped up and filled in as mom to her sister Treasa, her grandson David Glen and her nephew Ronald. She had owned and operated Lillie Dee’s for 15 years. She was also a cook on the towboat for ACBL.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Eric Leo Golomski; and brothers, JC Highland, Larry Wayne Highland, David Earl Smith and Greg Highland.

Services were held on Saturday, Feb. 23, at White’s Creek Freewill Baptist Church in Savannah with Carl Copeland officiating. Burial followed in Hollands Creek Cemetery at Savannah.
