Merle Stewart Merle Stewart, 85, of Adamsville, died Thursday, Jan. 28, at his residence. He was born in Hardin County, son of the late John David and Gladys Hughes Stewart. He was united in marriage to the former Mary Jean Thorne, who survives. Mr. Stewart was a farmer. Services were held on Sunday, Jan. 31, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Phil Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Crump Cemetery. In addition to his wife, Mary Jean Stewart of Adamsville, he is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Lewis of Savannah and Jane Sutton of Richardson, Texas; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
